We've been ranked as the world's number one VPP provider

Centrica Business Solutions has been named as the number one global Virtual Power Plant (VPP) provider in the Guidehouse Insights Leaderboard report.

Researchers recognised Centrica's international leadership in developing and operating AI controlled VPPs via its FlexPond™ optimisation platform.

FlexPond™ remotely and automatically aggregates and dispatches multiple Distributed Energy Resources (DER) from multiple sites to distribution or wholesale markets.

In this way it provides the advanced ‘brainpower’ behind the decentralised microgrid – facilitating the transition from centralised energy generation to a more localised grid that supports renewable on-site energy generation and storage.

Centrica Business Solutions has opened Europe’s first large-scale, multi-asset clean energy smart grid at Belgium’s Terhills leisure park, which is considered the world’s most advanced Virtual Power Plant.

The Guidehouse Insights Leaderboard Grid

FlexPond™ is also available under a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model – used by Japan’s largest power company, TEPCO to run its own clean energy VPPs.

The biennial Guidehouse Insights report profiles, rates and ranks the world's 16 top mixed-asset VPP providers against multiple criteria – from vision, strategy and business model  – to distributed energy resources management system (DERMS) integration strategy, technology scope and platform performance – through to value chain capture, project portfolio and staying power.

We're proud to be named the world's best Virtual Power Plant provider and to support our partners and customers in balancing their environmental and financial goals as they transition towards net zero.

As a full-service energy solutions company, Centrica Business Solutions is uniquely positioned among the top 16 global VPP suppliers. In addition to energy optimisation, we also specialise in energy trading, management, reduction, generation and storage solutions."
