Blockchain trial starts at Centrica’s Cornwall Local Energy Market (LEM)

Centrica, in collaboration with LO3, are moving towards a new and exciting stage on our local energy market trial in Cornwall, United Kingdom. Having already implemented a range of distributed energy technologies to support local businesses and homeowners, we are stepping up our trial with the use of blockchain technology.

This next stage of our trail, which includes £8.6m to support businesses as part of the programme, will use blockchain technology to create an energy platform for peer-to-peer trading. This will be joined with, amongst other technologies, solar power and energy storage. Emily Highmore-Talbot, Centrica’s Head of Communications (Business and Innovation), responded to some questions about the project for CleanTechnica.
