King's Lynn power station construction

Centrica is inviting local suppliers to register their interest in supporting the construction works at King’s Lynn Power Station.

Work on the installation of a new gas turbine and major refurbishment of the mothballed site started in March following a decision to invest over £180m into four flexible power plants across the country.

Working alongside their contractors at Siemens and TEi, the company is hosting a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event at the King’s Lynn Innovation Centre between midday and 3pm on Thursday 25th May.

Project Manager Jon Cooper said: “Having started preparatory works just a couple of months ago, we’re now gearing up for major construction activity on site and are keen to involve local suppliers as much as possible.”

In addition to the new turbine, the team will also be working on a total overhaul and refurbishment of the plant’s control system, boiler and water steam cycle.

The project team is looking for local suppliers to support with the following:

  • Electrical services
  • Light mechanical support
  • Welding, and
  • Material supply.

A team of up to 200 people will be on site during the construction with around 30 permanent jobs once the plant is up and running in 2019.

Once complete, King’s Lynn will be capable of producing enough power to meet the needs of around 370,000 households, almost all the homes in Norfolk.
