Centrica Business Solutions supports world’s largest commercial electric vehicle (EV) project

We are delighted to be providing demand response services for a major industry-led project that will test the end-to-end impacts of the EV rollout.

The ‘Optimise Prime’ project brings together leading power, technology, fleet and transport companies in the world’s biggest trial of commercial electric vehicles (EVs), which will see up to 3,000 EVs take to the road.

The three-year project has been given the green light by GB energy regulator Ofgem with the aim of coming up with practical ways of overcoming the up-front costs that are currently holding back many of the country’s biggest commercial vehicle operators from making the switch to EVs.

Led by global data technology solutions provider Hitachi Vantara and electricity distributor UK Power Networks, the trial will include vehicles from our sister company, British Gas, alongside EVs from Uber and a large depot-based parcel carrier, supported by distributor Scottish & Southern Electricity, Hitachi Europe and Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions. Charging for the home-based British Gas EV fleet will be provided by our Centrica Electric Vehicle Services team.
