Don't miss out on new funding from Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

Get ready to apply for government grants for your low carbon heating and energy efficiency upgrades

Public bodies in England can bid for new funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme this September - to reduce carbon emissions by installing low carbon heating systems and improving energy efficiency.

What types of public sector businesses can apply for the funding?

  • Hospitals
  • Schools, Universities and Colleges
  • Leisure centres
  • Town halls
  • Visitor attractions like museums
  • Public buildings

How much funding is available?

A total of £1.425 billion is available under Phase 3 of the government funding scheme, which is managed by Salix Finance. Details of the new Phase 3b funding will be announced in July 2022, with the application window planned to open in September 2022. A total of £533m has recently been awarded under Phase 3a.

Supporting the public sector

Centrica Business Solutions has vast experience of managing multi asset, large and complex estate wide projects through public sector grant programmes and procurement frameworks. We have a proven history as delivery partners across the NHS and the wider public sector – supporting the accelerated delivery of integrated energy saving schemes within tight deadlines.

Decarbonisation in action at NHS hospital

We're delivering a £4.7 million energy upgrade at Hereford County Hospital, which is benefiting from Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme funding. This integrated project involves the installation of more than 300 rooftop solar panels together with a new ground source heat pump network and other efficiency improvements. We're providing end-to-end project support to help Wye Valley NHS Trust progress its net zero pathway.

About the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme aims to help reduce emissions from public sector buildings by 75% by 2037, compared to 2017 levels, while also helping to shield public bodies from rising energy costs.

Grant funding is supporting energy efficiency improvements and the transition away from fossil fuel heating and cooling towards low carbon technologies. Energy saving technologies and solutions that have previously been funded through the scheme include:

  • Electric heat pumps
  • Solar panels and other on-site renewables
  • Wall, roof and heating pipework insulation
  • Double glazing and draught proofing
  • LED lighting
  • Building Energy Management Systems
  • High efficiency motors and variable speed drives

How we can help you plan and deliver your funded project

Previous rounds of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme have been oversubscribed, so it is important to plan out projects – ready to submit applications at the earliest opportunity.

We can help you plan and deliver your integrated energy saving project – supporting you through the funding application process and as your long term end-to-end project delivery partner. We can also provide finance, including our Energy Services Agreements, that funds integrated energy saving projects as a coordinated package – paid for over an agreed contract – often with guaranteed savings.
